CHAP at Beijing Biennale

Location: Beijing, China
Type: Exhibition
Client: Beijing Biennale Committee
Design: CHAP
Area: 40 m2
Phase: RIBA 2-6

The exhibit takes two drawings : ‘Filter City’ of 2020 and ‘City as a Room’ of 2021 from Peter Cook’s output which take the theme of the City in terms of layers of space, or of the City being a conglomeration of elements that surprisingly transpose from being formal – informal – static – moving – structural – vegetational. Cook is unashamedly keen on colour – believing that Cities in both the East and West are too dull and too grey.

These are then dissected and recreated as an enclosure whereby the constituent parts are revisited and take on the role of independently valid statements. It is the first of a propsed series of installations in which complex drawings will be dissected and then manipulated to create – in effect - an ‘architecture within architecture’. A condition in which ‘hybrid’ spaces can be worked – over-and-over.
