Drawing Studio

Location: England
Type: Education
Client: Arts University Bournemouth
Design: Sir Peter Cook - CRAB
Area: 150 m2
Phase: RIBA 1-7

This steel monocoque studio was commissioned by the Arts University Bournemouth and is the first of its kind in Britain in the last 100 years. Working with structural engineer Adams Kara Taylor with CIG's shipbuilding expertise, it features framed panels tailored, fabricated and reassembled onsite. The exterior is all-blue, abstracted from local architecture, while the interior has an all-white ambience to emphasise the importance of light. This studio is used by all departments and is a testament to the importance of drawing in the creative arts, with David Hockney as its Patron.
